To be a journalist you only need to partake in journalistic activities, which he has done and there is even published text, video & audio proof. As pointed out above you don't have to be any good. You don't need any qualifications to be a journalist.

Its not like Germany where you need a qualification to do anything.
He is not a journalist in any sense of the word. He is a political activist with a set mission. On LBC, it was all about himself and his policies, writing text is merely a press release for his own party... he has never been independent in his broadcasts or his writing. Is he acting as a journalist now? No he is promoting his own agenda and supporting Trump.

I will try again in bigger letters for the hard of thinking.

What qualification does he lack that prevents him being a journalist?

What does he need to perform to become a journalist?

What makes your or barmie's opinion important in his classification as a journalist?

Lets try answering these simple questions first !

OK in my opinion jezzybellend was a complete failure as a politician but he held the position of leader of the opposition. This makes him qualified to describe himself as a politician and additionally as a successful one.

He is a former (I previously used the term 'currently unemployed') journalist whether you like it or not. Name a journalist who is truly independent. I'll save you the trouble, there aren't any, they are all people with their own prejudices and views. He is as free to voice his support for Trump as you are to view your support for Gina Miller, or anyone else who wants the UK to remain as a mickey mouse state within the EU. You are free to disagree, but the minute you dismiss someone elses view as invalid, you become a fascist.

Farage (who is not a US citizen) took part in official campaign and on US soil to advocate for one candidate, that’s not ok by any stretch - would say the same if he (or anybody else) did it for Biden

Why do you think he did such a stupid thing? Most likely to pass to/from Trump message from their Master without risk that GCHQ/NSA records it

How is that different from Obama speaking out for the Remain campaign?

I highlighted in bold bits in my post above before you asked this predictably Mor Onic question.

Obama expressed his view on his own US soil since US would be party to future trade deal in event of Brexit.

Now if Obama came to UK and joined forced with Cameron during official rally then it would be analogous.
