Priti Patel ‘was warned about swearing at staff in August 2019’, Sir Philip Rutnam claims | Evening Standard

The former civil servant at the heart of the Priti Patel bullying scandal has claimed the Home Secretary was warned about shouting and swearing at staff as early as August 2019.

Sir Philip Rutnam said it was “not correct” that Ms Patel did not receive feedback about her behaviour, as suggested in a standards report that found she had broken the ministerial code.

He also revealed he was “not asked to contribute evidence” to the report. Sir Philip resigned as Ms Patel’s permanent secretary in February after accusing her of a “vicious and orchestrated briefing campaign” and is suing the government for constructive dismissal.

(Edited to say: they have already paid of one civil servant because of Priti's behaviour.)

You just have to love this Tory government, one that has performed countless u-turns, spouts meaningless platitudes, continues to make promises it cannot and knows it cannot keep, spaffs billions up against the wall yet people still think they're doing a good job. Once run by unelected SpAds but now seemingly run by the unmarried mother of one (something which many Tories are particularly vehement against but only if you're poor) , the girlfriend of a serial philanderer and known liar. The Patel affair is one of a series of events where the Tories have said it's okay for them but not for you:

        - As noted previously, one person has already been paid off due to her bullying
        - A senior official collapsed due to her: Senior official collapses after row with Patel | News | The Sunday Times
        - She is facing legal action and a tribunal due to her actions against her former permanent secretary: Priti Patel bullying row: ex-Home Office chief launches tribunal claim | Priti Patel | The Guardian
        - A report, held back for months, is eventually released albeit redacted showing she has breached the ministerial code. The only person who can sign this off is her boss, Johnson, who it is rumored hasn't actually read it. He says that she hasn't broken this code causing the resignation of the adviser on standards to the PM to resign
        - She would quite easily report her neighbours if she caught them breaking the law during lockdown, it's all about 'personal responsibility'
        - She's quite happy to vote for the government to break international law
        - She has made statements that could be construed as inciting violence against 'do-gooders' and 'lefty lawyers' and was politely asked to tone it down, which she declined to do
        - Johnson rewrote the ministerial code when he took office and in the fourth paragraph, and added this:

There must be no bullying and no harassment; no leaking; no breach ofcollective responsibility. No misuse of taxpayer money and no actual orperceived conflicts of interest. The precious principles of public life enshrinedin this document – integrity, objectivity, accountability, transparency, honestyand leadership in the public interest – must be honoured at all times; as mustthe political impartiality of our much admired civil service.
All of which seems to have been ignored by this government.

As for the number of syncophantic Tory politicians praising her now, are they scared that their Tapioca won't have any jam on it for pudding or are they just weak lily livered *****?
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Interesting farticle in the Guardian. Conflicts between politicians and civil servants are a particular problem in the Home Office:

Why do so many home secretaries fall out with their officials? | Home Office | The Guardian

Civil servants will have their own political views on important issues and, unlike politicians, they are not replaced by an election. The Home Office also deals with some of the issues, like immigration or crime, where left/right divisions are highest.

Odd that a certain Mrs May was secretary of state for that department for a long time before being PM. Seems that some people can deal with difficult public sector workers but not their own MPs...

Amber Rudd was "The Home Office Doormat" she had to resign over quota claims.

There as Theresa May helped bring the Windrush scandal as well as consistently annoying the police.

                    Yep.

More amusing is that Priti can't claim the Home Office was sexist to her as there were two previous female Home Secretaries.

She can't claim they were racist as the Tory government doesn't believe in it. The government has no intention of taking racism seriously – and it is using MPs of colour to avoid criticism | The Independent

May brought in a whole heap of hostile immigration policies when Home Secretary, Windrush was just the cherry on top for her. I'm not sure if you have to be a xenophobe to run the HO or if the job turns you into one...
