It's not really his fault is it. No one else is handling it very well and it's not like we've got a rule book or anything. Blaming just him is a bit pointless.

Focus your energies on those that can't keep to whatever rules are in place.

It is not his fault we have the virus.

His refusal to act in a timely manner in an attempt to alleviate some of the difficulties we are facing is e.g. schools are safe on Sunday but dangerous on Monday when the data was known in December. Schools don't have enough money as it is and having to throw away school dinners without notice, try and work out what to do with exams without notice, etc is his fault.

It is because the buck stops at the top, always.

He just does not like it, a lot easier to be an MP writing occasional columns in ToryGraph for 400 grand per year (whilst being public official)

From someone who knows a lot more than most about the current state of the hospitals:

10-14 days, then you'll see the big problems for the NHS start.

ICU units already struggling, surge wards being prepped and they are having to split beds by medicine and surgery, by male and female, by Covid red, Covid yellow, green and super green. Then they need all those beds by the various specialities. Yesterday across the NW patients ended up staying on ambulances outside ED because there was no safe space for them. The longest waited over 5 hours. Carlisle is currently diverting patients to Scotland and Newcastle!

Hospitals are filmed as "empty" because they’ve banned visitors and all non essential people.
There isn’t a hospital in the UK with an empty respiratory ward, if there was it’d be filled in minutes! What was filmed is a surge ward, hospitals getting ready for what’s coming. The NW team have got 4 of them on standby, the first opens on Monday.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist

And that's with all the current restrictions, mask wearing etc.

Imagine what would have happened if we went for "herd immunity"

The idea of herd immunity was considered. It's obviously a fairly moot point now but we could only speculate what would happen if we simply got on with life and hoped for the best back then. What would be the trigger point for a return to normal? Lives vs the economy - the government couldn't do right for doing wrong. They have, though, made some mistakes that need scrutiny (not buying an existing track and trace app, certain contracts being placed, not shutting the borders, etc) but they've done a lot of decent stuff.

Makes me laugh when people try and say, "ooh, but look at New Zealand" as if they're comparable.

It's pretty easy to predict since fatality ratios are known already - they'll go much higher though once service is overwhelmed, but even without it we'd talking hundreds of thousands dead over very small period of time and millions with Long COVID that will bear down on NHS for decades to come.

What makes me angry is that extending lockdown till end of Dec would have supressed the virus nicely (rates started falling on 3rd week of lockdown), then we'd have 2 cold months on much lower virus base whilst doing vaccinations, in fact sensible thing would have been locked down till end of January at least, then we are nearly into spring.

It's not like Boris got a chance at the next election, might have as well done the right thing, BUT he needs money and people who pull the strings have their own views on this matter.

Boris will be gone before the next election leaving the new guy/gal to stand against Starmer, who will be seen as the man who did nothing.

Who in the cabinet or party is good enough to replace him? Several of them would be sacked more than once if it was any other leader, while others are proving they are out of touch with reality.
