A contract to supply school lunch boxes awarded to a billion pound company was jus to reward rich Tory party donors and cronies and nothing to do with feeding hungry children.

Supplying lunch boxes is just a way for the Tories to rub in that poor people have nothing to put in it.

I thought schools/local authorities chose their suppliers, not government.

The government told the companies to delivery approximately £7 worth of food and gave them £15 for it.

Do you expect the company involved to perform the task for nothing?

with the condition that they should all tick the following boxes

              Tory donor
Related to a Tory cabinet minister
offer directorship of company to Tory MPs

And then they actually delivered about £2.50 in the case that's been in the papers.

It all needs reform. Free school meals are for poor children during term time, now they get food parcels but only to cover Mon-Fri.
Schools get £X per day per pupil to cover providing a meal - including staff and so on so clearly the child does not get £X of food. During these weird times of course someone has to be paid to make up these boxes but you would think the overhead should be less as it is putting stuff in a box... though I am unclear if these get delivered or are for pickup?

Maybe we should return to free school meals regardless of wealth. But what to do in holidays will remain a problem.

when you commercialise something that is public service, you end up with scumbags that will grab a contract and try and fulfill the contract with the most minimum expenditure and maximise profit. The said scum bag does not actually realise that him filling his pockets with profit would mean some poor child going hungry.

                    Either depends on the school.

Seen and listened to teachers, TA and even suppliers saying they would prefer most of the families to have vouchers. However for the teachers and TAs they can use delivery of the food parcels to check on the minority of students they are worried about.

Oh and there is a charity in the Manchester area who delivers food parcels for free.

Why don't I get such juicy contracts. At that price I can even give them a little bit caviar.
