Time to have a little word with AtW for calling for someone to be banned and to educate him in what the correct terminology is: Doxing - Wikipedia
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

        NERVA - Wikipedia

It was a dumb idea then & it's a dumb idea now, almost as dumb as using fluorine trichloride as an oxidiser.
        When the fun stops, STOP.

So yes, it's still using propellant, but it's been chucked out at higher speed.
Higher specific impulse is the term you're looking for.
It's basically a more efficient rocket as the propellant is moving faster.
An ion engine has an even greater SI, but again, propellant is still the problem.

If you're looking for stuff to propel out the back of a rocket into space, you could do worse than PsychoCandy...

For journeys to Mars you need something the size of MF.

This would be for the post-exit burn. I don't think you'd want nuclear crud shooting out the back either, except over Swindon, perhaps.
