Stock Market battle - when the little guys fight back

Gamestop: Failing firm soars in value as amateurs buy stock - BBC News

I'm not sure I'd put my money into it, but if there's a quick buck to be made from it...

Probably as good a reason as any for not following my stock market tips.

My son and I were talking about this today. Essentially you've got what he calls "millenial" bubbles. Someone with ten thousand followers buys a share in somecompany Plc, and all their followers do. So the price goes up. But the price for these stocks is being inflated just because people are buying it. It's got nothing to do with the value of the company. The price will crash as quickly as it rose.

Short squeezes are fun! But not my kind of fun. GameStop is an extreme example.

It is an effective way to make money off short sellers. Pick a stock which is shorted and watch the Hedge funds panic and forced to close their positions.

Naked shorts are illegal so they borrow the stock to sell it, but for some reason it seems there's a loophole and the stock can be borrowed multiple times.

If they closed the loophole this probably wouldn't happen.

How do you know if a stock is shorted?

And since there appears a close correlation to GME and WOW from what I'm reading on Reddit.

But I think that it's more than the money - it's personal.
