Vladimir Nabokov’s Superman Poem First Published | Vladimir Nabokov

    March 4, 2021

A lost poem by Vladimir Nabokov has been published for the first time, written from Superman’s perspective as he laments the impossibility of having children with Lois Lane.

The Man of Tomorrow’s Lament appears in this week’s Times Literary Supplement.. In it, Nabokov, whose son loved Superman comics, writes in the voice of the Man of Steel. He imagines the hero walking through a city park with Lois, forced to put on his glasses because “otherwise, / when I caress her with my super reds, / her lungs and liver are seen / throbbing too clearly.”
Apparently too racy originally so watch out if you get excited by throbbing livers.

    Note the by-line.
