    Do I understand this correctly?

They have a million pounds in an online account, and they turn up at a high street branch demanding to withdraw the whole million pounds in cash?

One thing I noticed is that most of the people trying to get their cash out are 60 years of age plus or OAPS. My nan would of done the same she will only put her £ in government income bonds, doesnt trust bank at all, may be its a generation thing

Of the stupid, only the older generations have any savings. The younger stupid are in debt.

    Update:
According to the Telegraph, they were asking for the staff to transfer the money.

Looks like the money is being used to pay for a home abroad or something like that.

Given that it's an online account, it's hardly surprising that local branch staff were unable to help them.

I have a current account held at a branch of a bank (not NR) down the road from where I live, and I also have an online-only savings account with the same bank. When I took out the savings account, I read and understood the Ts & Cs and I know perfectly well that although the staff at the local branch can (and do) exert their best efforts to help me with any problem that may arise with the current account, they can't help with the savings account.

I understood when I opened the savings account that it can only be administered online, and that I get a (slightly) higher rate of interest because the bank doesn't have to pay staff to service my account at the counter. This couple are (IMHO) interest-rate whores and (more importantly) morons, and they would be better off leaving their money where it is and going down the pub (I lived there for a bit and can tell you that there's some good pubs in Cheltenham ).

Did you notice that they mention at the end of that Telegraph article that NR hasn't yet used their loan facility from the BofE? If I had a million banked at NR, I'd be drawing on it to buy NR shares first thing Monday.
