Hang on a mo, are you saying after spending ten of thousands of pounds borrowing for my education the best that I can hope for is a shelf stacking job is Tesco's?

Not quite. With a degree you might get a shelf-stacking job at Waitrose, or maybe in an M&S food hall. Without one it's off to Farmfoods for you.

Part of the reason is that degrees seem to be rubbish nowadays. Only last week a new grad here from a prestigious uni could not work out what an amount X would be worth with a compound interest rate of Y after Z years.
What was even more shocking: she didn't have the nous to find a website that would do the calc for her.

I never thought it was worth it when I got mine in the early 90s. Certainly with IT, most of the technology was out of date and all it taught me was that it's possible to survive on kebabs, pizza, and cheap beer. The chavs learn exactly the same without paying for the privilege!

This has been in the paper every year since the late nineties, if not before. NL's doctrine of 'everybody deserves a degree' has had the effect of devaluing them to the point where they really don't differentiate that much anymore.
                Older and ...well, just older!!

Good idea, there's a lot of demand for plumbers and sparks in Poland.

                    What did she study?

Can't look it up on internet, that would be cheating!
