    Benched !

Ouch, got the nod for another 3 months contract 2 weeks ago. Came in on last day of current contract only to get a tap on the shoulder, sorry bank is skint no more renewals, you are gone at 5 today ! Find myself pitched onto the bench at short notice, dusted myself down and started to play the 'application game', had a couple of calls but after 4 months out at the start of the year I am not over hopeful heading into the xmas dead xone.
Good luck to all those looking !

Hard luck, but I think it'll pick up next year when the banks get loads of regulation thrown at them and have to adapt thousands of systems to comply.

Spot on mate - Mrs Liability is working in Risk right now - and you know what? Surprise surprise there is a Risk Shortage lol. No kidding - they cant find the people AND all of the top 6 UK Accountancy firms are all setting up Global and European Risk units now [what a surprise] and cant find the skill set.

In terms of Banking - 3 of my longest stints have been within Banks and I totally agree with you. My previous but one called me up on Saturday [was a senior PM] and have all earmarked a large budget in April for efficiency and governance in IT. Another well know energy firm have also done the same....

Looks like a risk managment course is on the skilling up list

Expat, I was a PM for BNP Paribas and my rate was 500 euros a day

most contractors in Paris wont get over 600 euros a day in the banks unless you are very specialised

Its not a huge contractor market either here compared to London but there are roles and if you can find the right one speaking English to International clients ets and speaking french on the side its a great city to live in !!

I hope I dont have to go back

I ask because I lived there before but the rates were not good compared to e.g. Frankfurt or Zürich. I'd say that you are kind of confirming that.
