We need someone with typesetting/dtp knowledge to shed some light. I suspect that it's meant to be only one space, but a wider "space" character than is normally used in between words. Is it an em space?

The big question is: space or no space before an ellipsis ... ?

space before a colon, or not : depends on the language.

Two spaces after a full stop (or an em-dash if you prefer, which is about 1.5 spaces IIRC).

One space after a comma, unless the next character is a quotation mark, i.e. at the end of speech.

No space before a colon in English, but one afterwards.

No space before a semi-colon in English, but one afterwards.

                HTH.

Just the one. Though "back in the day" my mum used to use a typewriter and was always taught two.
