Why can the baby and mother not be identified ?

Because she has other children who need protecting and there are other trials going on involving other people accused...

We have to keep justice on track peeps, can't have gits getting away with murder because some idiot blabs at the wrong time...

I looked after my nieces for three weeks ( this meant we had five kids in the house - and one of ours was just a few weeks old ) as their dad had hit the eldest so hard, she had a black eye. And she's was then, and still is, a well behaved, decent kid. All this was at the behest of the social services, who really really didn't want the kids to go into a foster home. They felt it would be far better for them to be with family.

After week 3, their father turned up, took the kids away. Police involved, as there was a court order preventing him having access. But it was still settled reasonably. Their mother came to stay with us for a few more weeks (in our 3-bed semi), and then the family was reunited. Their dad was bound over, and, thankfully, everything settled down.

The social workers were very decent people, wanting the best for the kids. But.

They weren't very bright. They didn't understand the legal procedures - they failed to inform our local plod that the kids were on the child protection register. They were supposed to pay us a fostering fee - never saw it, but I couldn't care less about that. And there was no follow up to us at all, via them.

Pay peanuts. Get monkeys. Well meaning, decent and honourable. But monkies nonetheless.

as a hand-wringing liberal i'm anti death penalty, but i hope the cnuts who got sent down for this meet an untimely, bloody and brutal death at the hands of 10 or so of their fellow inmates A.S.A.P.

For anyone to do this to a defenceless child I think they must be mentally ill, and as such should be incarcerated and treated in the appropriate mental health facility. The fact that no-one has resigned from Haringey council over this is utterly disgraceful and a public enquiry, with very public sackings is the least that should happen. I don't know if there is criminal culpability on the part of the council, but if there is, then this should also be prosecuted.

If I was aware of anyone treating a child badly I would do everything I could to stop it. Too many people walk away from issues rather than take a stand.

Hmmm burden of proof would be difficult to find, but a decent intention nonetheless. Perhaps NuLie will use this as an excuse for BigBrother permanent cams in everyone's home

It is likely that the mother and both men were themselves abused as children and thus part of an unbreakable circle of degradation and violence.

Incidentally I was wandering through the market at lunchtime and the greetings card stall had a card intended for "Dear Son and Partner" - I mean what kind of twisted oedipal individual would buy that?
