Barack Obama is being given ominous advice from leaders on both sides of the Atlantic to brace himself for an early assault from terrorists.

no “real or artificial spike” in intercepted transmissions from terror suspects had been detected.

So this is like the WMD then? Just enables the security services to get more money....

At the end of the cold war, people were starting to call for reduced defence spending in the USA. Suddenly along comes big bad bin laden and the whole al qaeda thing and back up goes the defence budget and spending on defence companies and security services.

Then as people begin to smell a rat and more and more start to doubt the existance of the whole al qaeda thing, suddenly the ruskies become the big bad wolf again so that we have a threat to justify continued defence spending.

Now that dies down again, suddenly the al qaeda thing comes up again.

    Funny ol' thing eh?

    From the article:

President Bush has repeatedly described the acute vulnerability of the US during a transition.
I wouldn't put it past Brownstuff to try postponing elections in the UK in case a "transition" risked triggering a terrorist attack.

Yes, this is something that is also brought up regularly in the foreign press.
