First timer - notice period query

    Hi,

I am currently in the situation where I will be looking to move to a contactor role next year. One query I do have is regarding my notice period and the affect it will have on getting a new contract. Currently, I am on a 3 month notice period - how much is this likely to affect my chance of getting my first contractor role?

In most cases my current company will let staff leave early however there is no guarantee of this. On the plus side, I do have SC clearance

    Thanks

Depends on the skill-set, but for most contracts the agents want you immediately available.

There again, for a cleared role and depending on the level of your clearance, they mostly wait,

As an aside, if you're confident you can manage it, look out for DV or above roles, then you can be waiting for that clearance to come through, and hand your notice in with confidence you've your first contract in the bag.

Roughly the same as a hardened jailed criminal wondering if his long stretch will affect his chances of joining the police force.

Seriously, the chances of anyone waiting 3 months in the current market are close to zero. Why would they wait, when there are dozens of other people ready to start tomorrow. The whole point of contractors is the speed with which you can get them in and out.

The only exception would be if what you are doing is highly specialised and SC clearance may help a bit with that. Still going to be tough though.

      Good luck

The will not wait 3 months so don't mention that to any agents (there may be ways around the notice)
Why do you want to go contracting?

        Good luck.

Ladyees let the mayem begin and RH is only going to suggest we pollute perfectly good vodka and champers cocktails with red bull, which in my book is a shooting offence.

so what has it got in its fridges
