    and therin lies the truth

the new design not about attracting contributors and retaining them

it's about reducing the number of contributors

    bye bye

Do you email porn sites asking them to make their sites more work accessible

If you keep beating the posters who like to have a bit of banter, ban the trolls who only come out at night, move all threads that could get up a head of speed to LR, send PM's, infractions about language, then eventually you'll end up with a board with only a few staid posters, moderators answering all the questions and talking among themselves and posters so bored they will attempt to get the last post on every forum at 2.28am in the morning!!!!

But that would never happen would it?

MF your are a Pratt (in the nicest possible way), but I have to agree with you on this one.

I never saw anything about beta testing (not saying that there wasn't invitation, just that I never spotted them), otherwise I would have chirp-up earlier.

I think that there is a major design flaw here. Sometime ago I looked into web business models and CUK falls into the user generated content types. It is that user base that repeatedly and frequently adding content that is sold as an audience to advertisers. The key is the 'repeated and frequent' bit. It has to be an environment that will encourage that. Partly that is the management of content, but a major part is the ability to access and contribute. The current site layout runs contra to that.

I am not the bloke to do web design, but I would start by remembering the thing about reading from the top left and all that. At the moment, content starts half way down the page, get it as close to the top as it can be managed.

Another thing is the key-hole that I am typing this into. It's got about a dozen lines with a blank space twice it's size below. What is that all about?

As I said in other posts, I feel 'pushed out'. I might be an old git, but this is not resistance to change. I think that the the layout is a major design flaw that has the real danger of being fatal.

            </mode>

I agree with every word, well said.

The forum MUST be rolled back to previous version - sorry, it may have been good effort, but it totally missed the bloody point. Well, unless the point was to put me off posting on here
Yep, a good effort but it has to be said that this new site is actually embarrassing give that we are IT people. There are many non-IT amateurs who have made better sites.

Just scrolling up and down General - yuk, the icons on the left are way too distracting to read the titles without effort
For the avoidance of doubt, I could post on the old site within 15 seconds. The new site takes much longer not least because of the poor layout.

The forum is so quiet as I am not posting as much quality content as usual.

Work has quietened down a bit now so I can put more effort in on here. Business as usual in a bit

the new forum is a total turn off

I accept you might want to make it high contrast for people wit sight difficulties, but can't you have two different masks for the website, one for high contrast and one for lower contrast ?

those of us using client's pc's/laptops are forced to use IE6

the look and feel is really really bad

it is painful to read threads

            what's the point to contribute

unless of course, that was the whole goal - clean up CUK ?

these high contrast colours do not work with posting from an office work place environment

            Milan.

I would like to make suggestion to moderators of site to consider maybe re organising content into a tabbed page view rather that the current flow layout to encourage a more left to right reading layout instead of all up and down the page. I have to admit I am having great difficulty in navigating site in its current format and I would suggest that possiby you haven't made the best use of available real estate. This is just an opinion and I do not expect you to act upon it but I think in the interests of the site and in the interests of the collective ethos which lies behind this site it would be advisable for you to take my suggetstion or take my suggestions into your consideration when thinking about the design of the site for any future upadtes. Thankyou.

The old site was a lot better and easier to read, especially the fonts client co has ie7 and there are large
white spaces on all the posts and there is a lot of scrolling to find and read the info.

Ideally the changes should have been phased in so we all got used to some of the
design changes and it wouldn't be a big shock with all the problems were getting.

I am getting used to the design/layout now but initially I couldn't bother looking at the site for a few days,

I'm only looking at the site now because I've got nothing to do and need to pass the time .

Quick point #1... if you want admin to listen why don't you ask the requests in the right place, rather than expect them to read every single thread?

Quick point #2... I have never seen a forum or community site go through a major change/upgrade without this level of negative feedback. It's entirely normal.

Can any of the long timers remember how the last forum upgrade went?
