Yup. That was the reason I was given when I first started contracting.

So, if we bin that rule - what else would stop a contractor from wanting to be self employed?

It's probably been said before but what would be wrong with a CIS style card scheme?

There's a whole industry built up from contractors pay issues, surely clients would be more likely to hire direct, no need for tax insurance, agents, tax lawyers and accountants would got to the wall.

Win+win+win+win+win... I can see where the resistance will be coming from.

Self Employed is a european term and the rules for being self employed are 10 times more complicated
than working for a brolley or own LTD. Don`t give the Government ideas

(I wasn't terribly impressed with that piece of doom-mongering in CUK News..)
Agreed that it was a particularly doom-laden piece.

However, given that the Tories are now in bed with LD, I think it's a more accurate portrayal of things to come, given the LibDems are big on cracking down on tax avoidance.

I just can't see how this coalition government are going to take a measure that "gives" money to "rich" freelancers.

But the LibDems had by far the highest proportion of MP's signing the IR35 EDM.

Don't confuse "being part of a coalition" with having any real say in governing the country.

The Lib-Dems are holding on to the Conservatives coat-tails so they can have a sniff at power - snivelling little gobshytes the lot of 'em.

Eh? My plumber is self employed. I've been self employed before. Why are the rules so difficult? I found it quite simple - sales income - expenditure = profit, tax paid thereon.

Ok, ring 10 UK agencies and ask them about contracting and being "Self-Employed"...

                    Report back with your findings...

I refer the honourable member to the point I am trying to make and the question I would like answered.

So far I've had "it's complicated on the continent and you wouldn't like it"
