Default General Anti-Avoidance Rule effective immediately

THE government yesterday announced a clampdown on tax avoidance which it said would raise £2bn, drawing fierce criticism from business groups.

David Gauke, the Treasury minister in charge of taxation, announced a raft of measures, including two that will come into force with immediate effect. He said the changes would raise £2bn by the end of the parliament.

Looks like EBTs and other schemes are in the sites. Apparently this is to appease the lib dems and show that they can set some policies seeing as they're getting such spanking form the students

Do you think the Treasury really need to appear the Lib Dems in order to clamp down on tax avoidance and raise £2 bln (equivalent to 1% of income tax I think - can't find link to back it up just now)?
