In that case I ask again - why are they going to all the trouble of nicking them? Especially nicking them in another country and going to the hassle of getting them across the border.

What's cheaper?

1. Breed your own dogs, feed and house them up to the the point of slaughter (oh, and there's probably some kind hounf tax too).
2. Nick some else's dog

I imagine that it's pretty easy to drive them across the border, a bit like bringing booze back through the chunnel.
