I found that the people hired by agency cleaners are often there simply because they are "in-between" jobs and can't find anything else, more often than not they do a crap job and don't want to be there. With agencies I had more no shows or they were ill and no replacement provided by the agency.

In the end we went direct with a one woman band and she was really good.

Though you'll often find the good cleaners are all snapped up.

I was thinking the same thing, "supports" would be more accurate.

Same applies to the good contractors.

We've had two cleaners and both were punctual and hard-working... as self-employed workers they rely on working in order to get paid. Maybe that's a Northern thing, or an age thing - both were late-middle-aged proper Northern ladies.

Probably, but what a waste of their time and our tax.

There's nothing wrong with an honest low-skilled job.
No theres not. But dont moan about it and do a half-arsed cant be bothered job.

The cleaners I got were self-employed albeit through an agency but seem to treat is as need the money this week I'll turn up, cant be arsed next week so I wont.

Can you ask your cleaners if they can make it to Wales once a week? ;-)

£14 an hour. sod that. More than the Mrs gets being a nurse!

Think ours is £8 an hour.

Client married their cleaner - I did try to continue getting paid for her services to him but he wouldn't wear it!!

Dont think running a cleaning agency is high on my list of things to do by the sounds. Deffo too much hassle dealing with that.

I think the problem is our system, since the 80's has totally demeaned any manual labourers - if you tell your children that without academic qualifications that are useful in the office that they are "FAILURES" then what attitude do you expect?

Could you, as a child (which I think 18 yr olds are) really "accept" that you're a failure by working what you've been conditioned to believe is the work undertaken by people with little value?

Yes, I do think its Tory to say 95% can go to college, because they can't - I couldn't .

I blame the crap we're putting our kids through, but us gifted high earning middle classes sometimes have difficulty accepting that the UK is not the land of opportunity it was for us. Everyone's world is different , thats why we have psychology and sociology.

That said, these skills have been completely eroded by Economics and Marketing.

Our education system is now dying a slow death thanks to our current government and no one seems to care.

In 5 years, if things dont change, EVERY school will be out of state control as an academy - Ofsted change from "Satisfactory" to "Needs improvement" means that schools that are doing fine by the national curriculum will also be branded failures - Every school that "Needs improvement" will have a crash team assigned to manage it, to make it an academy.

    IMHO <flame away>
Scoobos - why couldnt you go to college?

BTW I aint middle class. Grandfather worked underground (and died because of it), old man worked in factory for 40 years, I lived on rough council estate and went to crap comprehensive school.

Not saying everyone should but they can if they want to. If you dont go, and end up in a lower paid job then all I'm saying is you should do the best you can.

Like I said, and others have posted here, it seems there are people out there who just cant be arsed. Its this attitude more than anything else that causes the problems.
