he built an installation at a Vienna café that allowed men in the adjacent restroom to see the inside of the ladies room through a two-way mirror...
I was wondering what idiot complained about this until I read

the two-way mirror only allowed onlookers to see the women at the sink, rather than while performing more private duties.
Which explains why it was brought to the attention of the proprietors.

“95 percent of our clients, whether male or female, find it funny.”
Doesn't seem to be very good business sense knowing you piss off 5% of your client base?!

no it was probably when they reversed it and they saw suity tapping off at the urinals.

weird man, some things should be private.

Top tip for detecting one-way mirrors: Put your fingernail against the glass. If your fingernail and its reflection don't touch, then it's definitely not a one-way mirror. If they do, it's likely to be, because most normal mirrors have conventional glass panels about 5mm thick to protect the polished surface from damage. One-way mirrors can't have that, since they rely on a percentage of light being conducted from the light side to a dark area behind the mirror. If there's a glass panel on the 'light' side, too much of the light gets reflected for the process to work.
