One of my mates who's doing bog standard pharma work in Zurich is on the equivalent of £150k (permie)
And judging from the emails I'm getting this is standard.
Don't know what it's like in finance.
I can tell you why this is happening. There is no young blood in the industry, almost everyone is senior. Maths and life sciences are unpopular. The traditional routes into the industry are being dropped by the Universities because of the lack of demand. There are lots of Chinese but they usually have poor communication skills.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

With a stats MSc and the right experience you can get the figures I'm quoting.
      That'd be a no, then.
You won't be alerting anyone to anything with a mouthful of mixed seeds.

Hmmm, sort of mirrors what my mate was saying. But I think it is also a specific German and Swiss problem - they don't seem to be bringing through the right sorts of grads. The French and British pharmas don't seem to need to pay anywhere near as much.

Edit: DA, open an office in Basle/Zurich ...
