When I worked in the Civil Service there was no dress code and boy did I see some sights, usually it was notties not the hotties that wore that sort of attire *shudders* it was a very harrowing experience.

A simple business suit is fine. The burka is an over reaction. Its not about availability or control. Its about the right tone being set in the office as a wider point. If sexuality is what a woman wants to achieve, its more than possible for her to look sexy or attractive in more conservative attire. The freedom of expression point is exactly why men are expected to put a suit on instead of the closest thing to the bed of a morning. Office attire was designed to ensure that male and female workers were comfortable in their colleagues presence.

I have worked in all sorts of industries over the years and at one point had the (in)famous Polestar print works as a client. Apparently the Nuts office is something else to behold. The reason that I had the polestar print works as a client was because none of the married men in the office would go near the place because the women were animals! Not models or porn stars. The ones that worked in the offices retouching images (It turns out that animal was an understatement!)

            Precisely.

The attitude that a woman is somehow responsible for men perving all over her has been used by rape-apologists for decades. It's just out of line.

Like mudskipper, I'm not a girly girl. I err on the side of casual and comfortable with office dress codes. I have no issue with women who dress to show off (even when there really isn't anything they should be showing off). If it gives them confidence in the workplace, I'm all for it. Although I reserve the right to be highly amused at the particularly poor fashion choices some of them make in the process.

Eloquent, but I do disagree, you seem to have a touch of repression. Men wore suits to the office way before women were allowed out of the house and one suspects that women to be taken seriously emulated the men's dress and came up with the drab and unflattering thing called a business suit. Women should be allowed to dress how they see fit and the fact you're uncomfortable with it is your problem. The Burka is the same principle albeit taken to an extreme.

I almost never work at companies where men wear business suits, or indeed where there's any kind of dress code whatsoever. What should women wear there? And how can it be enforced, given that there's no dress code?

OK send me your work address I'll pop round in skin tight lycra, a muscle shirt, hairy chest & medallion see how long you last. I'll be comfortable and confident the ladies might not be.

If I'm a hunk you leer a'la diet coke man, if I'm a lump you'll puke. If I'm in a suit I'm easy to ignore.

If you want to be treated as something other than fluff dress smart not slutty.
