No more jumble sales - Apple have the trademark

    Linky

The US Patent and Trademark office last week granted Apple's application to trademark a retail store featuring computers. It is the "distinctive design and layout" that Apple now holds the unique design rights to, thanks to US Trademark 85036990. The application to exclusively own this particular store arrangement - specifically "rectangular tables arranged in a line" - was filed in December 2010 and granted on 22 January 2013.

Not sure how jumble sales enter into it, given that the registration document specifically restricts the "mark" to:
"Retail store services featuring computers, computer software, computer peripherals, mobile phones, consumer electronics and related accessories, and demonstration of products relating thereto."

Seems a bit odd that you can trademark something like the layout of a shop, but if the law allows it and you've got something different to the way other shops are laid out, I suppose you'd be careless not to

So everything will be fine so long as no-one tries to sell IT tat on rectangular tables.

Can the corners of the tables be rounded?

Why not just read the trademark document and find out?

Right, I'm off to patent God and I'm going to make him a goldfish.

Just stop buying their silly products and they can fold. Just like they were about to before they got silly people to buy rubbish computers in different colour cases.
