I feel that the erasable nature of pencil indicates that you're not confident in what you're committing to paper! As a contractor your clients *expect * you to be confident! That's why I carry a large block of granite and an array of chisels and hammers at all times.

I use a 1950's yard of lead. Its heavy enough to beat a bob to death with it

I also have a Tombo Mechanical pencil but the lead is far too thin in that

I'd get cramp. I'd fail as well cos nobody would be able to read it.

They've yet to make a digital equivalent that is even close for maths. A bit like trying to write C++ with a pen really
