There is a huge industry of people that work in "public sector" jobs. They are found everywhere from running hospitals to running the European Union to running the BBC. These people are essentially useless. The reason they exist is because we are duped into thinking that they serve some sort of purpose that is beyond the capabilities of the markets.
These people are accountable to no one and yet if one is to look closely at the problems they are supposed to solve you will see consistent failure to perform.
They spend most of their energies trying to screw the system for every penny they can take and devising systems that mean that they are not accountable for failure.
When they do fail they always cite a lack of funds or "under resourcing" as their excuse, thus manipulating us into feeling ashamed and guilty. So much so many of us (people who do proper jobs) then become lilly livered self righteous lefties to make them feel better about ourselves.
The new "social cause" for which we are expected to pour millions into the pockets of these people is climate change and "the planet". The climate change lobby want us to give away our hard earned money to pay them to tell us there is a problem (no one ever has a solution because that would mean sticking one's head above the parapet).
So righteous do these people become about the sanctity of their cause that they begin to behave like extreme religious nutters (PJ Clarke)
What gives them away is their refusal to concede any ground at all, but instead to "control" us by trashing every piece of dissent that arises.
There are funnily enough solutions to CO2 and air and water pollution that would have no economic impact. But if ever these were to be implemented a lot of people would suddenly become poor and properly exposed as worthless twats who should be picking fruit from the fields.

And that is the problem with socialism. It has always involved the use of revolting means to pursue an unattainable end. It has seen the rights and liberties of individuals trampled in the name of a collective good. Damian McBride is a small but interesting example of the mental contortions of socialists over the last century, when there is no abuse or tyranny – large or trivial – that has not been justified in the name of the people/the planet.

Sounds like your average bank exec, in fact I give you Matt Ridley. I am sure you'd like him. He wrote

Of course that was before his agressive business model at Northern Rock brought it to its knees and he had to go cap in hand to the 'self-seeking parasite' for £27bn of Government bail-out (aka our money) after having conjured the first run on a British bank since 1878.
