BBC News - Asda 'mental patient' costume withdrawn from sale online

Lots of upset about Asda selling Mental Patient costume. PC or justified? Any comment from our resident loonies? (those that aren't banned.)

Call it "axe murderer" costume and its sorted.

It's better than the small plastic wheelchair, fake drool and gammy fake hand Sainsburys had been marketing under the Joey brand.

I don't see a problem with it myself, people are too sensitive sometimes

I would wear one if I had a Halloween party to go to

Exactly. The issue isn't about the costume, it's about portraying people who have suffered from mental health issues (which 1 in 4 people will do in their lifetime) in this way. It's already stigmatised enough, without having stupidity like this (and the Amazon and Tesco ones in the same vein which haven't had the outrage yet).

Alistair Campbell has always been very outspoken on mental health issues, so it's nothing new to see him discussing the issue at the moment. He's always been upfront about the issues that he has faced in his life, which in a high profile political figure is rare.

Tesco remove costume labelled "psycho ward" from sale, following Asda doing similar over a costume labelled "mental patient"
