Lazy recruituing

I’m currently recruiting for an Accounts Assistant to support a project for a construction company in South Wales. The position is to start on Tuesday and needs a candidate with Sage and Excel experience.

Email from agency that I'd previously discussed a role with. Crazy. I don't even have any accounts/finance IT experience on my CV or even mention Sage and Excel. But I do live close by.

Regularly get emails for roles mile away or outside my skillset but they are generally IT related. Seems my CV has been searched based purely on location. Fully expect to receive details of fork lift truck driver vacancies soon just because they're close to home.

Although, some might say this is my level! There is a McD at the end of my street too...

Tell you what - there is a big gap in the recruiting market. There is a serious lack of people with real understanding of business and technology.
The recruiter would have found your cv with the word "Sage" instead of stage that you uploaded in some random website when recruiting went online :-)

Because I have used the words mentor and train in my cv, I receive calls about training and teaching jobs.

Back to my first point - I tried moving to recruitment, they made fun of me saying I don't have a related qualification. Wondering what is required to send afew emails and make phone calls with the ease of cv availability these days.

Some of them I can understand - I'm not a professional programmer but I've done some PHP & C# project work so I occasionally get programming jobs sent to me. Not ideal, but at least I can understand where they've got the idea from.

But I had a phone call from a recruiter the other day looking for a graphic designer - I have NO idea what CV she had read.

Like I said, this particular agency seem to have a separate IT and accounts/finance division. Seems like my CV has been spread to all parts.

Weird thing is I still can't even see any keywords in my CV that even mention accounts/finance/sage/excel.

Surely they haven't sent this email to every CV they've got on their DB in the region?

Know what you mean though. Number of agents whos last job was carphone warehouse, sports direct, marks and spencers....

I have found some of the small agencies are quite good and know their stuff, but then you run the risk of them going under as they usually have little capital behind them

As to your qualifications for recruitment I know someone who went straight from being a goods picker at ASOS, to being an IT consultant. Their IT knowledge extended to using Facebook and playing Angry Birds
