    Default Contractors are like children

Such is the wisdom of my favourite LOUD PM this morning.

Apparently if you turn up on client site and sit twiddling your thumbs for two weeks because they haven't sorted out your access, you're behaving like a child.

Last time that happened to me I went home and told them to call me back in when I had a working pc and login.

Yes, I lost money but I can't bear the sheer torture of sitting round doing nothing while having to look busy.

It's well known that people often criticize in others the worst faults in themselves!

Which part of that don't you agree with? If you don't even have the initiative to chase your access several times a day...

I was even missing a desk and chair, so 'borrowed one' from another department getting help to move across offices at night once the permies had gone home. Security were informed and that was one problem solved

Getting a login, no matter how much chasing outsourced IT support will drag it on for ages, so that was still over a month, but at least I had a desk

Chasing sometimes makes no difference, if the people dealing with it really don't GAS

One ineffective contractor who may or may not have been chasing access does not mean "Contractors are like children".

It was apparently at a well known mobile phone provider - I've seen others on here complaining about them.

You are, because you haven't mentioned sending an invoice while waiting.

I would say good contractors are like children, but for different reasons. They haven't lost the "learn through play" mentality and can't resist a challenge or playing with a shiny new toy.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

There's some pretty compelling evidence that contractors are like children here: http://forums.contractoruk.com
