Should I contact HMRC and accept whatever they demand?
Firstly no I don't think you should just accept what they are saying. Nothing has been proven in any way and they are banking on the fact that people will 'go quietly'.

From my own personal experience I'd suggest joining Big Group. I notice you've posted a few other messages around the forum and people have posted links on how to join so won't repeat.

We're fighting the good fight so will hopefully see you there!

      Chubacabra is correct.

This is a well constructed attack by HMRC to force people into submission. Years of tax law backs up what we have done to mitigate our tax exposure. They have not won 1 case to date, they cannot afford to take every individual to court, legislation giving power via APN is their only way of showing a return against the millions it has cost them to date and not 1 of them has been enforced. By that I mean people may have paid the demand but those that have not have not be forced to pay, they will not because it is to dangerous if they get it wrong. Just look art Montpellier who are no claiming costs against incorrectly issued APN's. It will not be long before someone kills themselves over this which will cause a political tulip storm. It's all going to come apart and HMRC will fail.

They need to concentrate their efforts to work with the law makers to simplify tax going forward and not try and retrospectively apply their interpretation of what it means.

So we need to hold strong and tell those **** bags to tulipe off.

        IQ Contractor Loan Scheme

For Sanzar initially they have requested a large payment is made back to them by each of their users based on a retrospective recalculation of their tax liability.

Under new legislation approved in 2014, HMRC will be able to issue Advance Payment Notices (APN's) for money that they believe is owed to them. Under this new APN concept we will have to pay up the amount within 90 days of receiving this notification without a right to appeal.

We have created a private group where all affected and potentially affected scheme users can join forces to appoint a tax specialist/law firm that will help us understand what our rights are and where we stand legally.

It is important to understand that even if you have not yet received enquiry letters you most probably will in due course and we need to ensure we all come together in order to have some sort of chance of getting a fair treatment.

In order to become part of the private group you will need to provide proof of having been part/or being part of any these schemes.

If you have any questions on the subject please PM myself or Old Kent Road.

        Hello,

I would like to be part of this group. Please let me know the process. I have received the Tax Investigation Letter from HRMC. Please let me know if there are anyone else using IQ in this group.

Thanks, I've now joined Big Group and just waiting for my login details. I've since received another letter from Hector threatening bailiffs.

I was with Darwin from late 2009 - Dec 2010

However, we're a bit busy and picking members up at about 5 a day so please bear with us.

Had a call from Winchester today, so it would seem they're very much still in the business.

It's one of the mysteries of this industry that a lot of the people who created the current crop of misery continue to attract business in the face of a hostile and well armed HMRC.

Tax planners have in the past been compared with drug runners and other criminals. Fair?

The one big exception being they never suffer any consequences. It's only the clients who get collared.
