I have now been able to PM individuals (which I have done).

I may sound far fetched here, but having spent some time researching it, has anyone actually considered declaring themselves bankrupt?

If you cannot pay a particular amount of debt (over £5k), this might be feasible?

I guess I am just keen to understand how people are actually getting through this as HMRC have really taken the P*** coming after hard working people. It's times like this I wish I had just sat at home and claimed benefits for years for being unfit for work or whatever other bu** SH** excuses people use these days instead of trying to make a living!!!! (excuse my sarcasm).
I am no expert but going bankrupt is an extreme solution. You will likely lose all your assets and would be unable to work in certain industries. (finance...)

Certainly this is an option for some.

I wonder though why it's on this thread when below there are several dealing with this?

Big Group and its advisers are not insolvency specialists and as such whilst there has been a build up of knowledge in this space, if this is a serious suggestion, you will need specialist advice.

I agree - they will simply come and seize anything that you have as debt recovery.
Its awful - so sad we even have to consider this as a means to an end.

That is, I'm afraid, blatantly untrue.

It is this sort of comment that scares people into believing that HMRC are unaccountable bandits operating above the law and that your only choice is to roll over and do as they say.

Much as HMRC would like that, the truth is that they have to operate within the rules,

One of the objectives of Big Group is to inform and demystify the process and being blunt (and with respect), uninformed and alarmist posts like this are not what we do.

I highly recommend anyone fearing IVA / Bankruptcy go and speak to an expert (for free). You may well be surprised at what you hear. How it affects you in the long term depends totally on your own personal circumstances. Personally I have spoken to 4 different ones. Remember, you will get a varying services like in any business, so speak to a few. I did this over 6 months ago, so am already prepared for the bulk of it should it happen. Do not leave it until the last minute !!!

I have exchanged messages with Dmac and hopefully he is now up to speed.

The seminar is aimed at those people who are not yet committed to settlement on HMRC terms and who therefore have an ability to take alternative routes.

Clearly Big Group is one such.

Equally clearly, some people prefer other routes to finding an answer. So long as all are aware of the pros and cons of the chosen option, that is fine.

The seminar tomorrow is aimed at educating those who are Big Group members.

We do have clients who are looking only at settlement for the moment. For the avoidance of doubt, they are more than welcome to attend (first session is 9:30am, second is 2pm) but should be aware that the "settlement" element will be a minor part.

We are expecting over 500 people over the two sessions and the Q&A promises to be a lively affair.

We will record the sessions and make it available later to those wishing to know more.

Slightly disappointed to have missed this, especially being a WTT client. I must have missed the email invitation...
