Hello, I have just received a letter from HMRC : "without Prejudice". I settled my APN last year and now they have sent a letter demanding £5000 including interest as inheritance tax, by the end of 30 September 2019. can anyone help / advice. I stopped contracting in 2005. thanks,

I think you may have more luck posting this in the Scheme Enquiries section.

Might be an idea to ask a mod to move it?

An APN, paid or otherwise, is not settlement. It's a payment on account of a final liability that still needs to be agreed at some time.

IHT arises in various situations, but yours is the first case I've heard of an unsolicited demand. IHT can be complicated. You need to seek advice from a professional and not some anonymous poster on a forum.

    (No, me neither).

There are a number of scam out there purporting to come from HMRC. These can take the form of emails / SMS messages, and even phone calls.

I would be very careful to ensure that this is actually an official demand, by contacting HMRC by phone, directly using the contact details on their Website?
