"Bill read a second time. Committee negatived. Standing Order 46 having been dispensed with, the Bill was read a third time and passed."

      It is a setup:

      1. IT services by local specialists will become too expensive
      2. Companies will complain they cannot find specialists
      3. Companies will press government to ease immigration
      4. Chancellor will call father in law to ship workers and consultancies of donors will pick up the scraps

      Bonus theory:
This creates level playing field with the US tech workers. Probably Mr T was scared that once trade deal is signed, the techs from the US would jump ship.

        Hard to disagree.

As I have been told more than once by a local MP:
        1. On one side there are people like me saying that IR35 and the off-payroll rules alone are devastating the contract sector, combined with the ever present threat of downward pressure on contract rates or permanent salaries as companies want to ship more and more people in
        2. On the other side companies are consistently saying to MPs that they are unable to find people

As I wryly observed that I wasn't a political party donor that would invite him to swanky dos or donate £12K for a £40 million tax saving then I'll never be on the winning side.

In reality, until the pitchforks are coming (see The Pitchforks Are Coming… For Us Plutocrats - POLITICO Magazine), this will continue to happen ad infinitum.
