The chicken cacciatore turned out very nice; it was accompanied by some more of those wedges I roasted yesterday, and petits pois

Still seems rather warm hereabouts, though slaving away in a hot kitchen probably hasn't helped

Strange that there was no market for that

    Very odd.

Ok if you like 98% CGI, otherwise I'd give it a miss.

    Yet another comic derived thing.

Ah, it's not actually derived from a comic, it's made to look as if it is.

Glad we've cleared that up, then.

Chinese cinema tonight with Ip Man (2008), being the true (in Chinese Communist Party terms) story of the eponymous kung fu master's early years, including during the Japanese occupation of China (or parts thereof) from 1937 onwards, when he actively resisted the Japanese at a great deal of risk to himself and his family. Years later, in Hong Kong, he was master to Bruce Lee.

There are a couple more films after this one that tell the rest of his story. The first has him challenging corrupt colonialists in Hong Kong (to be fair, the Hong Kong Police were notoriously corrupt), while the second features Mike Tyson as a (corrupt, naturally) property developer

So, CPoC propaganda, but nonetheless a very good film; I hope they keep up the standard in the next two, should I get around to watching them

(There's also one called "Ip Man: The Final Fight" but it came out the same year as Ip Man 3, has a different cast, and sounds from its description like some cheap Western knockoff.)

I was rather amused by the captions at the end about what happened after he and his family escaped from the Japanese, saying that the Japanese "surrendered in 1945, finally defeated by the Chinese people" without a mention of the USA or any atomic bombs

And the end credits had a list of names of "Tealadies" which is excellent and much better than the American way of wasting such valuable screen time on accountants

After that, S1E1 of the French detective (or "flic") drama Spiral, as I've never seen it. Good stuff, though not in HD; but engaging enough that one doesn't notice the shonky picture too much

    Goodnight all

    Morning denizens

    Sunny out again

Mind you, it isn't supposed to be. Should have been cloudy with a chance of rain today, but once again the forecasters have pushed that back

The SIM swap finally took overnight, so the new SIM is now in the phone. Stuff is working properly again, including 4G which never worked with the old SIM

    Drumming people just went by!

Not sure if they're the same ones as used to come past in the early evening. First two or three of them, one of whom has the drum, seemed to be in white robes; and there are about six of them including at least one woman. They look more like ISKCON types than the weirdoes who used to come past. Also, drumming more slowly.
