You are an overheated culinary example to us all.

For reasons I can't explain I've just spent half an hour looking for this:

It's a photo out of my latest tome.

I wonder what happened to her.

    Christmas Street Home
Mrs Francis sits in her cluttered living room on Christmas Street (formerly Noel Street), south-east London, 21st December 1946.

Widowed for many years, she helps out her neighbours by collecting their milk and looking after their children.

I wonder if she was widowed in the first global unpleasantness.

Were you at UBS or Warburgs prior to the "merger"?

            Air-con arrived today.

            Worth it.

Just had a brief but heavy rain shower. Very stair-roddy. Big, straight down, no breeze.

Although it may just have been the humidity passing 99% and the H2O changing state.

Looks like we peaked at 34° here; it's dropped back down to 33° now, thanks to a layer of cloud starting to form

And it appears we now have a better-than-evens chance of a thunderstorm this evening

Felt like crud when I woke up this morning so stayed in bed. Crawled out the pit and logged on for 9am. Knew I still had to make it into the office for a project board meeting at 2pm.

Left home at noon (mad dogs and all that). Fookin hot. On tube with bloody tourists and their infernal suitcases. Then a wait at the other end for the staff bus to HO. Just the walk from the bus stop to the office made me feel like I was going to catch fire. Not looking forward to the journey home.

In sad news, HWMBO has retreated back up north and I will have to fix my own G&T and dinners now.

It's got to 25.8 in the living room now.

And there's a CBS which is a bit of a pain.

The Latest Tome is leading to a fair amount of googling.

                      Bread rationing.

                      1946.

                      In a Socialist Paradise.
