Just spent 100 minutes in online chat with O2 support, as I constantly have to reset the SMS sending number on my phone and now that's stopped working, I suspect because of a fault with their configuration ("Unknown Error").

First chap worked very diligently and methodically through various things, then escalated me to a "Guru".

"Guru" worked very diligently and methodically through various things, then escalated me to a "Line 2 Guru".

"Line 2 Guru" ignored everything I said, denied that simple facts about how my phone has been working for the last four or five years could be true, and told me to go to a shop

Funnily enough, I’ve just had an O2 experience...
Was talking to The Wife (tm) on the phone around 9am and the call got cut off. When I tried to call back, the phone never rang and then the call failed, and when she called me my phone would ring but the call would fail. Data was still OK, but voice wasn’t.
Went into an O2 shop here in Weegieland and then swapped the sim over, saying it would take up to 24hours to activate. It took 30 seconds. Phone now working.

...except data didn’t work any more. Now re-activated the data (text Active to 2020), and it all seems OK.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

This all goes back to the Apple Store giving me a Pay Monthly SIM when I bought the phone, assuring me it would also work with my PAYG account. They were incorrect

O2 helped me get it set up properly and it's been fine except for the message sending, which would revert to the Pay Monthly setting every now and then, including whenever iOS updates happened. Oh, and 4G has never worked.

Anyway, I've ordered a new PAYG SIM off them for free and will swap my existing number to it when it arrives. And this has also led to me discovering that I can now get 5GB of data a month for the same price as my current 2GB, and probably get 4G working to boot. So they'll end up giving me a much better service for the same money, all because one of their specialists couldn't be bothered asking a few questions

Just popped up the road, on foot. It's dashed warm out there in the sun

Further popping will be postponed to the cool of the evening.

Oh, and lunch of a chicken bap (wholemeal) before that, though after the O2 shenanigans

I've come to the conclusion on this contract, I could handle the distance if I was enjoying the work but I’m not, I could handle the boring job if I was working closer to home, but I’m not.

By some strange coincidence, as I was staggering up the road in the blazing heat towards the bus stop, I met a chap I last worked with 30 years ago almost to the day in Siliconix.

He's now a HIPS assessor for his sins.

Had a nice chat, found out who'd died in the interim & the undead that we'd met recently.

This, of course, made me a bit late, so I had the pleasure of watching the X7 wend its weary way up Fabian Way without me.

The 38, naturally enough, was 10 minutes late.

But it was a nice afternoon, the sun was pleasant, and it was an opportunity to chew the fat with an old mate.

He's the same age as me but, since he's got 4 kid, retirement isn't on the cards just yet.

                38 home again, jiggety jig.

Tea/dinner was the last of Sunday's beef with carrots & onions.

It was nice enough but I rather overdid the chili powder I added to the cornflower.

The evening's entertainment will include the Hatton Garden thing and the Rockets thing.

                I like rockets.

                And H bombs.

                When the fun stops, STOP.

Went past a signpost today. Some vandals have been swapping the letters around. Now reads:

                  OH YEAH
                  ALLELULEIA

after the very enjoyable making of much noise, and a beer or two with my co-makers of said noise, haddock and chips has been consumed.

very nice <they never have ready haddock, so it's always freshly fried>

i'll probably ache for a day or two, but it's well worth it.

beats the crap out of golf as a hobby, that's for sure.

<one doesn't have to mix with the sort of snobby arseholes who belong to golf clubs>

might have to look into noise reduction ear plugs though, bit of tinnitus kicking in.

but, hey, it's been in the post for 50 years.

Currently watching some tosh on BBC4 about Victoria.

The Queen rather than the station.

Though there's no doubt that a programme about Swansea Victoria might be more interesting than this crap.

                      Launching a comsat in 1958?

The Septics were barely getting them 10 feet off the launch pad at the time.

And the reds were busy launching dogs.
