The sun is burning through the low cloud as I sit here waiting for the forms I need to fill in for the new job.

Pâté on toast for lunch again; this time, the toast was Sainsbury’s sesame seed bloomer, which I really like but for some reason don’t get often enough

Went out and had another look. Can’t find a frame number; there’s a fitting on the bottom of where the crank is to guide the gear cables, so that might be obscuring it. No Bike Register sticker either.

The local police website says they “can’t help with found bicycles”.

As far as I can tell, if I can’t find the owner within 28 days, having made “reasonable efforts” to do so, it becomes my property. Quite a decent light bike it is; I wouldn’t mind that

I shall assume that informing the police and making them officially record a description of it along with my contact details, notifying the Neighbourhood Watch group and having them circulate photos (including to the local beat bobby), and having a look through local cycling group forums and national websites for reporting stolen bikes will, altogether, count as having made reasonable efforts. So in 27 days, I might have a bike

Indeed, though he had last night to do that, and for all I know several nights before that.

I’ve shoved it back behind the car, though not as carefully. I’m thinking I might leave it out there until the weekend, then bring it in and put up a notice on the fence with a throwaway Gmail address, saying the owner can have it back if they supply an adequate description.

Successfully moved my car to a better spot, that's two doors up rather than one street along.

It’s raining out now

And the mundane laundry is on so I have some clean clothes when I go away tomorrow. Though I’m coming back the day after, so it’s not as if I’ll need a huge wardrobe

Guineas and chickens put away for the evening. Tayla is getting a bit too confident for my liking, whereas Jamie is very predictable and will head in when called.

In other news, the main garden table is now under wraps for winter. Next will be some of the other wooden furniture. Might be a job for tomorrow.
