Why are (some) members obsessed with wealth?

I always associated grand displays of ones wealth, especially around your property, to be a middle class (and now more commonly lower/working class) trait, where as those with money never discuss it.

If you are a boring, dull, pig-ugly, middle-aged man like Dim with no interests then money takes on a disproportionate importance as compensation for other riches.
Shame he doesn't have very much.

TBH, those types have never really bothered me. As you say, if they are as wealthy as they make out, they wouldn't need to flaunt it.

If I had a few million in the Bank, I'd be off traveling and doing endless track days, not standing around blathering about money.

It's all relative. Go travelling, spend lots of time bored while travelling from a to b. Do lots of track days, becomes like playing scalextric after a while, you're just going around in circles.

Much of life and it's riches are a distraction to ease the boredom before death.

The only truly valuable item you have is time. Spend it wisely.

If I was wealthy I would make a point of rubbing it in. Great fun.
