    Ubuntu...

...at least Windows gives you some idea why things dont work.

    Linux noob.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

You get what you pay for.

TBH I've found that it mostly works ok without much tinkering.

Use Linux Mint instead, what Ubuntu should have been and much better driver support.

But do you get names for each version of Linux Mint like Ubuntu's "Karmic Koala"

WHS - the only thing I've had to tinker with is to try and get three monitors working off two graphics cards (which I gave up on and settled for 2 monitors) and the fingerprint reader on my laptop.

Scanner worked first time - which is more than I can say for under Win XPx64 and Windows 7.

Part of me wishes that I'd taken Mint instead of Ubuntu for my desktop machine, but I didn't want to wait for a 64bit version of Mint based on Ubuntu 9.10.

Oh well - not too fussed by it (but it's a little brown for my tastes!)

It probably will tell you why something is not working. If you look in the right places...

If you still having problems let us all know and am sure between us we could sort you out. IMO it is good when things break as you get a better learning experience - be grateful

The good thing with Linux is that when things go wrong, there is a hard-core geek community that can help fix the problem quickly.

The hard-core geek community didn't seem able to fix my Ubuntu install.

                    Fortunately Windows 7 works.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.
