'Pronounced' fall in online IT job openings

Fewer opportunities to land a job online befell IT workers in the UK between April and June, a data feed shows.

In fact, out of 18 other key sectors like Transport, Engineering and Finance, online vacancies in Information and Communication Technology dried up the most, according to Jobfeed.

The “pronounced” decline in opportunities for techies appears in contrast to Healthcare, which accounted for the greatest market share (12%) of the 11.3million UK jobs posted online in Q2.

But despite slipping, IT is not far behind. It is still a respectable third place in terms of its online jobs market share, even when including its latest year-on-year dip -- 1.2%.

Standing at 10.1%, the IT sector advertised fewer jobs in Q2 than Sales/Trading (second largest sector with 11.2% share), but more jobs than Admin/Customer Service (9.4%).

The feed's makers, Textkernel, says it automatically trawls the internet for new job ads every day, but the resulting list of vacancies excludes franchises, graduate posts and freelance jobs.
