The body of an American IT contractor who was kidnapped in Iraq more than a year ago has been found, just days after his fingers were sent to the military. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said on Monday that they had recovered the remains of Ronald J Withrow, and that relatives of the victim had been notified. The bureau did not say when and where his body was found, but DNA analysis found his fingers were one of the five sets of fingers sent to the military a few days before. His remains were recovered alongside John Roy Young, a US security contractor, who was also kidnapped by unknown gunmen, but after an ambush in November 2006. Mr Withrow was working for JPI Worldwide, a US-based IT giant, as a freelance computer technician on “certain projects” when he was seized on January 5, 2007. Speaking via their lawyer, the company declined to comment further citing an “ongoing investigation” by the FBI, into what they said was a “tragic and senseless death.” Expressing their sympathies to the victims’ families, the FBI testified, vowing to “aggressively investigate every available lead” to bring to justice those responsible for the “heinous” acts. Mr. Withrow’s mother, Barbara Alexander, told The Associated Press that investigators told her of her son’s death on Sunday night. “We’re bringing him home,” she reportedly said. “That was what our main concern was. And that they’re not going to hurt him anymore.” Mar 27, 2008 Email this article Printer friendly page Previous Page
