Website marries off call centre workers

A dating website is hoping call centre staff will pause to think of the spirit of their job when they face the life-changing process of getting married.

Bposhaadi.com wants India’s phone operators to outsource the entire task of getting hitched, from finding a mate to organising the big day, to its online network.

Users of the site can search by region and community for their would-be spouse, but don’t need to trawl occupations as all registrants are employees of the BPO industry.

They are therefore guaranteed to find someone who wants to get married – denoted by ‘shaddi’, but also someone who works a night shift and so sleeps during the day.

Computer engineer Vikram Malhortra was yesterday reported as the latest success story of the site, which is said to have so far joined a dozen couples in matrimony.

“I don’t think other girls could take this mad, crazy lifestyle, this parallel universe,” he told the Sunday Telegraph, pointing to the call centre industry.

Speaking to the paper, the site’s founder Sanjeev Pahwa said call centre staff were now meeting the people who could best understand their job and work pressures.
