Face-to-Face Mentor

About the Opportunity

We're looking for Face-to-Face Mentors to support vulnerable children and young people across SO31, Southampton, Portsmouth, and surrounding Hampshire areas.

Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll provide dedicated 1:1 mentoring for learners who may be unable to access mainstream education, are awaiting suitable placements, or require additional support to build confidence and re-engage with learning.

This is a highly rewarding role focused on developing trust, encouraging positive routines, and helping young people overcome barriers that may be affecting their education and wellbeing.

Location: SO31, Southampton, Portsmouth & Surrounding Hampshire Areas
Start Date: September
Hours: Flexible
Pay: £25-£30 per hour

What You'll Be Doing

Providing consistent 1:1 mentoring support
Building positive, professional relationships with young people
Encouraging engagement with education and learning activities
Supporting confidence, resilience, and emotional wellbeing
Acting as a positive role model
Helping learners work towards personalised goals and outcomes

Experience & Skills

We're keen to hear from individuals who have:

A minimum of 6 months' experience in an educational setting
Experience as a Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Tutor, Youth Worker, Teacher, Cover Supervisor, or similar
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach
Confidence working independently in a 1:1 setting
Experience supporting vulnerable young people or those with additional needs (desirable)

Learners You May Support

The young people we work with often have:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
ADHD
Anxiety and emotionally based school avoidance
EHCPs and additional educational needsEvery placement is different, offering varied and meaningful opportunities to support young people who need it most.

Essential Requirements

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Right to work in the UK
Driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred
If not a driver, willingness to travel locally across Southampton, Portsmouth, SO31, and surrounding areas
