Environmental Manager - Major Energy Infrastructure Project (Scotland)
Contract: 6 Months possible extension

The Role
We're looking for an experienced Environmental Manager to join a major energy infrastructure project in Scotland. You'll lead environmental and sustainability activities across the project, ensuring compliance with legislation, project requirements, and industry best practice.

This is a demanding role suited to a stronger-than-average candidate, someone confident and capable of challenging site activities where required, and comfortable dealing with demanding stakeholders. The role involves more than site presence alone; substantial documentation and compliance work is central to the position.

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership and guidance on environmental and sustainability matters
Ensure management controls are in place and that project personnel understand their environmental responsibilities
Support site management teams in maintaining compliance with project environmental requirements
Lead or support accident and environmental incident investigations, identifying root causes and corrective actions
Review environmental and sustainability performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
Develop and implement environmental improvement initiatives and awareness campaigns
Prepare and review environmental and sustainability plans, procedures, and supporting documentation
Identify significant environmental risks and ensure appropriate controls are implemented
Manage environmental consents, permits, licences, and exemptions as required
Produce environmental reports, presentations, and performance updates
Support tender submissions, pre-qualification activities, and environmental award applications
Work closely with project teams, clients, regulators, and external stakeholders
Experience & Qualifications

Chartered IEMA status (or equivalent) preferred
Strong understanding of environmental management on major construction, infrastructure, utilities, or energy projects
Experience in:
Waste management
Water management and pollution prevention
Statutory nuisance
Contaminated land
Ecological mitigation
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
Environmental permitting and licensing
DCO and planning consent processes
Strong understanding of Net Zero principles and carbon reduction strategies
Experience in carbon measurement and sustainability reporting
Experience managing and investigating environmental incidents
Strong report writing and documentation skills
Good IT skills
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the confidence to challenge site activities where necessary
