Transport Planner Open-ended Temporary Contract - Huddersfield - £30,000 - £35,000 (Rotating Shift Pattern)
The Role
This Transport Planner opportunity is with a well-established distribution business based in Huddersfield, supporting a busy transport operation across a rotating shift pattern.
The business is looking for a proactive Transport Planner who can effectively plan and coordinate daily transport activity, maximise fleet utilisation and react quickly when operational priorities change. You'll be working in a fast-paced environment where strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are essential.
Working closely with drivers, warehouse teams and the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain function, you'll play a key role in ensuring deliveries are planned efficiently while maintaining excellent levels of customer service.
Key responsibilities
Producing efficient daily transport plans to maximise vehicle and driver utilisation
Planning routes in line with customer requirements, delivery windows and operational capacity
Monitoring live transport activity and reacting to delays, changes and operational challenges
Communicating with drivers and providing support throughout their shifts
Working closely with warehouse and wider Logistics distribution and supply chain teams to ensure smooth operational flow
Ensuring plans remain compliant with drivers' hours, Working Time Directive and transport legislation
Monitoring transport KPIs and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce cost
Maintaining accurate information across Transport Management Systems and operational documentation
Supporting the wider transport team in delivering excellent customer service
Key experience
Previous experience as a Transport Planner, Transport Coordinator or similar within a busy transport operation
Strong understanding of route planning, fleet utilisation and transport operations
Experience within retail, 3PL, general haulage or distribution would be advantageous
Good understanding of drivers' hours, Working Time Directive and transport compliance
Comfortable working a rotating shift pattern
Experience within a Logistics distribution and supply chain environment
Strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to manage changing priorities
Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS) or route planning software would be beneficial
