Quality Engineer

About the Role

A leading Government client is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join a large-scale digital transformation programme focused on modernising critical public sector services.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement test automation frameworks and solutions from the ground up.
Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD), Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD), and risk-based testing approaches.
Support CI/CD pipelines and promote shift-left quality practices.
Coach and mentor team members on quality engineering principles and best practices.
Perform testing across multiple levels, including:
Unit Testing
System Testing
Integration Testing
Non-Functional Testing
Analyse business requirements and develop effective test strategies.
Create and maintain test data and testing artefacts.
Participate in collaborative development through pair programming.
Review and interpret Java unit tests (e.g. JUnit) to support defect investigation and test analysis.
Design and develop automated end-to-end and system tests using Playwright and Java.
Build and maintain automated test scripts across UI, API, and system-level testing.
Translate requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria into comprehensive automated test coverage.

Essential Skills & Experience

Strong experience in Quality Engineering and software testing.
Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines.
Experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks.
Strong knowledge of Git/GitLab.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Ability to coach and influence teams on quality best practices.
Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
Quality-first mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
