Our client, a leading organisation within the defence and security sector, is seeking a Mechanical Assembler/Tester to join its assembly team in Havant on a contract basis. The role involves precision mechanical assembly and testing of engineered components and systems, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, quality standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Assemble mechanical components and systems in line with engineering drawings, work instructions and specifications
Carry out functional and pressure testing using appropriate tools and equipment
Identify, record and report non-conformances or defects during assembly and testing
Maintain accurate build, test and traceability documentation
Work with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues
Follow all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment
Support continuous improvement activities within the assembly cell and wider production environment
Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop area
Job Requirements:
Experience in mechanical assembly and testing, ideally within a defence, marine or heavy engineering environment
Background as a Mechanical Fitter or mechanical assembler.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, method sheets and engineering specifications
Familiarity with precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, callipers and gauges
Understanding of hydraulic or pneumatic systems is desirable
Strong attention to detail and a clear commitment to quality
Good communication and teamwork skills
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, mechanical fitting or a related discipline; a relevant apprenticeship is advantageous
Additional Information:
Workshop-based position involving occasional lifting and manual handling
Working hours are 06:00 to 15:00 on Monday, 07:00 to 15:00 from Tuesday to Thursday, and 07:00 to 13:00 on Friday
Occasional overtime or shift work may be required in line with project demands
