About this contract

Shift Engineer – Electrical Bias

Location: Bridgwater
Salary: £27 – 30 phr
Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off – 12-hour day and night shifts

The Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Shift Engineer with an electrical bias to join our engineering team at an established manufacturing facility.

Working within an existing factory environment, you will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, safety and performance of production machinery and equipment. You will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance, responding to breakdowns and identifying opportunities to improve equipment efficiency and minimise downtime.

This is a hands-on role suited to an engineer who enjoys fault-finding, problem-solving and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery and associated equipment.

* Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults to minimise production downtime.

* Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns across the factory.

* Complete electrical fault-finding, repairs and component replacements.

* Support mechanical maintenance activities where required.

* Identify recurring faults and recommend improvements to equipment reliability and performance.

* Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety procedures and site standards.

* Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate outstanding issues during shift handovers.

* Work closely with production teams to support operational targets and maximise equipment availability.

Skills and Experience

* A recognised electrical engineering qualification, such as an NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent.

* Previous experience in a manufacturing, industrial or production environment.

* Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

* Good working knowledge of industrial machinery, motors, drives, sensors and control systems.

* A sound understanding of mechanical maintenance and general engineering principles.

* The ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and remain calm under pressure.

* A proactive approach to problem-solving, preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.

* A strong commitment to health and safety and safe working practices.

Shift Pattern and Working Hours

* 4 shifts on, 4 shifts off.

* 12-hour shifts, covering both days and nights.

* Rotating day and night shift pattern.

* You will be paid for the full 12 hours of every shift worked.

The 4-on, 4-off pattern offers regular blocks of time off while providing consistent engineering support across the factory's operating hours.

What We Offer

* Competitive salary, reflective of experience and skills.

* A structured 4-on, 4-off shift pattern.

* Payment for the full 12 hours worked per shift.

* The opportunity to work within an established manufacturing facility.

* A varied, hands-on engineering role with opportunities to develop technical skills.

* A supportive team environment where engineering reliability and performance are valued.

How to Apply
