Functional Skills Tutor

Support Learners with Essential Skills for Life and Education

We're looking for Functional Skills Tutors to work with children and young people across Dorset, helping them develop confidence and competence in English and Maths through personalised 1:1 tuition.

Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll support learners who require alternative educational provision and benefit from a tailored approach to learning. Some students may be preparing for Functional Skills qualifications, while others may need support rebuilding confidence and closing gaps in their education.

This is a rewarding role for individuals who enjoy helping students make tangible progress and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Subject: Functional Skills (English and Maths)
Start Date: September
Hours: Flexible
Pay Rate: £25-£30 per hour
Type: 1:1 Tuition

Requirements

Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting, including tutoring, teaching, teaching assistant, mentoring, learning support, or similar roles
Experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills English and/or Maths
Ability to adapt sessions to meet individual learning needs
Experience supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirable
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Patient, reliable, and engaging approach
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally within Dorset

Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
ADHD
Anxiety and school avoidance
EHCPs and additional educational needsYou'll play an important role in helping learners develop practical skills, increase their confidence, and engage positively with education.
