About this job

About the role

We're recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school's SEND team in Camberwell, South London. This is a varied and rewarding role that will shape your career in education whilst making a tangible difference to young people with complex needs.

As a Teaching Assistant specialising in SEND, you'll work at the heart of the school's special needs provision, delivering targeted support across multiple year groups and settings. You'll be part of a dedicated SEND team, working collaboratively to remove barriers to learning and enable young people to succeed.

Your role as a SEND TA will include:

* Delivering one-to-one and small-group interventions for pupils with complex needs

* Co-delivering specialist programmes supporting communication, language and learning

* Supporting pupils' integration into mainstream classroom settings

* Building relationships and trust with young people who've experienced educational barriers

* Contributing to assessment and progress tracking that drives pupil outcomes

* Supporting behaviour strategies and safeguarding frameworks

* Working flexibly across different settings (classroom, intervention spaces, off-site provision)

* Adapting resources and strategies to meet individual learning profiles

* Collaborating with external agencies and specialists

* Attending multi-agency meetings and contributing to planning

The role is genuinely varied: no two days are the same. You might deliver a literacy intervention in the morning, support a pupil's transition to a new class, join a behaviour meeting, work one-to-one with a young person on communication skills, facilitate a social story exercise, or support a complex learner accessing mainstream lessons. You'll see real impact - young people building confidence, developing independence, and accessing learning they previously couldn't access.

About you

You're a graduate ready to launch a meaningful career in SEND education, or you may be a qualified teacher looking to move into SEND. You'll need:

* A bachelor's degree (any discipline)

* Real commitment to enabling pupils with complex needs to reach their potential

* Strong communication and collaborative working skills

* Genuine interest in understanding neurodiversity and complex learning

* Reliability and a solution-focused approach

Your career

This is a stepping stone into SEND specialism. Working within a secondary school SEND team gives you exposure to assessment, intervention design, and multi-agency working. Many TAs progress to SENCO qualifications, specialist support roles, or trained higher-level positions. You'll develop deep expertise in supporting teenagers with profound and complex needs.

What we offer

* Secondary school with a strong SEND provision in South London

* Full-time permanent contract

* Supportive, collaborative team environment

* Clear pathway for career development and further training

* Competitive daily rate for a Teaching Assistant in Inner London
