About this job

Are you a Sports Graduate, Youth Worker, or Care Professional looking to transition your de-escalation, mentoring, and engagement skills into an education setting?

A supportive secondary school is seeking a resilient, proactive Behaviour Mentor / Behaviour Support Assistant (BSA) on a full-time temporary contract. This role offers sociable daytime hours (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM) during term-time, providing an ideal pathway for individuals with backgrounds in coaching, youth justice, social care, or community support who want steady school hours.

In this position, you will work directly with young people (ages 11-16) presenting with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, barriers to learning, or disengagement. You will act as a positive role model, helping pupils regulate their emotions, rebuild focus, and successfully engage in lessons.

Key Responsibilities

Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group mentoring to students with complex behavioural or SEMH needs.

Use calm, non-confrontational de-escalation techniques to support dysregulated students within and outside the classroom.

Act as a reliable bridge between pupils, subject teachers, and the school's pastoral and inclusion teams.

Support pupils in overcoming emotional barriers to learning, improving daily attendance, and developing personal resilience.

Assist in reintegrating disaffected learners from internal inclusion units back into mainstream lessons.

Maintain objective, accurate records of pupil progress, incidents, and daily engagement for multi-agency and pastoral review.

Requirements & Backgrounds Considered

Experience working with young people, adolescents, or vulnerable individuals within education, youth work, residential care, sports coaching, or community outreach.

Relevant background or qualifications in Youth Work, Sports Coaching/Science, Criminology, Psychology, or Health & Social Care (Level 2/3 or Degree level).

Confident presence, high emotional resilience, and a firm, fair, and trauma-informed approach to behaviour management.

Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport with challenging or disengaged teenagers.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to complete an immediate application).

Benefits & What We Offer

Consistent Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, term-time only (no evenings, weekends, or shift work).

Competitive Pay: £85 - £105 per day, paid weekly via PAYE with no umbrella company deductions.

School Transition: Full induction, on-site pastoral support, and direct school-based experience for aspiring teachers, pastoral leaders, or educational psychologists.

CPD & Training: Access to safeguarding refreshers and accredited de-escalation training (e.g., Team Teach).

How to Apply

Submit an up-to-date CV detailing your experience working with young people or supporting behavioural needs. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted immediately for registration and school trial days
